The Commissioning and Transition

The Commissioning and Transition stream of the SmoothHospitalMove methodology covers how to plan for and prepare departments to participate effectively in the hospital move.

Planning and managing the commissioning and transition is a complex task especially as the hospital operates across two sites for a limited time. For this reason it is essential that all hospital departments participate in planning the transition.

One of the first tasks is to develop a Transition Strategy to help people understand; to communicate and educate. The Transition Strategy explains exactly what relocation means:

  • Organisational structure and governance for managing relocation
  • Work required to plan, prepare and manage the commissioning, the move before, during and after relocation
  • Managing risks; maintaining safe and effective service delivery and achieving a successful relocation
  • Managing people, change, leave and other matters relating to the organisation’s human resources
  • Developing and delivering effective education and training
  • Planning and implementing a successful communications strategy.

Using the Transition Strategy to communicate this information develops understanding and encourages staff collaboration to reach a common goal.
