People Management -Training

The People Management, Training and Orientation stream of the methodology is designed to give staff every opportunity to familiarise themselves with the new hospital and to feel confident in providing safe patient care in a new clinical environment.

It is absolutely critical that hospital staff are well supported and engaged in components of the transition process. Mismanagement of human resources or staffing issues are major risks for the project. Consequently it is very important that staff members are looked after throughout the period of transition.

An effective and comprehensive training and orientation program ensures that staff are equipped with the knowledge and skills required to work in and provide patient care in the new facility. For example, the objectives of an Education Plan may be to:

  • Ensuring people who will work in, and use the new facility, are informed, prepared and ready
  • Provide managers and staff with the skills and knowledge relevant to the hospital move and settling in period
  • Develop a leadership team to achieve a successful move
  • Support managers and staff through the change process
  • Assist with the communication to staff and patients on details of the move
  • Evaluate the program, both individual sessions and the plan as a whole.
